Hommage to Jean Mill

The Grande Dame of the Bengal Breed

The Bengal Cat belongs to a modern breed created by crossing the Asian Leopard Cat ( ALC) to a domestic cat. The small Asian Leopard is a Jungle- and forestdweller from Asia right up to Russia. Bengal Cats inherited their wild looks and beautiful coats.

The creator of this unique and sparkling beauty is Mrs Jean Mill from California. We owe her our uttermost respect and gratitude for her more than thirty years of effort to create and improve the breed. “Millwood”, the name of her cattery, grants innovation and highest quality.

Enthusiasted, gifted and under big financial sacrifices, Jean Mill reached her aim in 1991, when the Bengal Cat was accepted by TICA (The International Cat Association) as a new breed. Meanwhile, Bengals have become one of the most popular cats in the United States and due to their charming beauty and intelligence they are gradually making their way into Europe.

Thank you Jean, for giving to the world this beautiful feline.

Die Bengalkatze ist eine moderne Rasse, die aus der Kreuzung des kleinen Asiatischen Leoparden (ALC) mit Edelkatzen entstanden ist. Der ALC lebt in den Dschungeln und Wäldern zwischen Asien und Russland. Von ihm erbten die Bengalen ihr wildes Aussehen und den wundervollen Pelz.

Schöpferin dieser einzigartigen Rasse von auffallender Schönheit ist Mrs Jean Mill aus Californien. Ihr schulden wir Dank und größten Respekt für mehr als dreißig Jahre Arbeit, in denen sie die Bengalen erschaffen und zur Blüte geführt hat. „Millwood“, der Name ihrer Katzenzucht, garantiert Innovation und höchste Qualität.

Beseelt, begabt und begütert, erreichte Jean Mill, dass die Bengalen 1991 als neue Rasse von der TICA anerkannt wurden. Inzwischen sind die Bengalen zu einer der populärsten Rassen in USA geworden. Nicht zuletzt wegen ihres Charmes und ihrer Schönheit haben sie nun auch Eingang in Europa gefunden.

Junglewhisper kittens in their new homes

Good day, Roberta. Here are a few pictures from the other day. I think he has grown some since you dropped him off. They are not as good as the ones you sent us but i hope you like them. We have been getting him use to the harness for about 2 weeks before we took him outside. These are pictures from the 2nd time we took out. He really likes going outside. When we bring him back in he goes back and forth to the front door and the back door and howls to be let out. The kids think he sounds funny when he starts the howling noise since they don't think he sounds like a cat. You did a great job raising him because he is super friendly. He is so very loving too. I think he knows the difference between adults and kids because he seems to be very gentle with my kids and other little ones when they are around. With other adults he seems to not sit and let them pet him like he does with the kids. Thanks so much for this great little guy. Have a great week! -- Amy

GLITTER explanation:

If you are looking for a Bengal to adopt, you will sooner or later come across the expression "Glittert Pelt". This is quite difficult to explain if you do not have the cat in front of you. Glitter happens because the hair of a Bengal can be hollow or transparent reflecting the light, and sending it back. This is the only cat- breed with GLITTER. The pelt shines like gold or silver depending if the cat is a Brown, a Snow or a Silver. The whole cat glitters, looking like he has been dipped in gold or silver powder. On the photos below you can see an example of "Glitter". This Snow shines like "Mother of Pearl" in the sun. "Junglewhisper INUKI of Magiccastle" lives in St. Petersburg ( Russia) with my friend Alla who breeds most beautiful Snows.

Si vous êtes à la recherche d´un Bengal, vous avez certainement déja lu l´expression "sa robe est pleine de Glitter". Trés difficile à expliquer si on n´a pas le chat devant soi. Le poil du Bengal peut être transparent ou inclure une petite bulle d´air à l´extrémité. La lumière rentre dans le poil où elle est reflètée causant le phénomène du "GLITTER". La robe du chat paraît alors soupoudrée d´or pour les Browns et Snows, d´argent pour les Silvers. Le Bengal est la seule race de chat à présenter cette apparence dorée. Sur la photo du bas vous voyez "Junglewhisper INUKI of Magiccastle"avec son magnifique "Glitter". Il vit aujourd´hui à St Petersburg chez mon amie Alla qui élève des superbes Snows.

Auf der Suche nach Ihrem Bengalen ist Ihnen sicher auch der Ausdruck GLITTER begegnet. Es handelt sich da um das einzelne Haar des Bengalen, dass entweder hohl oder durchsichtig sein kann und Licht hinein lässt und dann reflektiert. Die Katze sieht aus wie in Gold- oder Silber-Puder getaucht je nach dem ob es ein Brown, ein Snow oder ein Silver ist. Ein atemberaubendes Phänomen, nur dieser einen Katzenrasse eigen: dem Bengalen! Auf den Photos ist ein gutes Beispiel von Glitter of einem Snow, "Junglewhisper INUKI of Magiccastle". Er lebt in St. Petersburg bei meiner Freundin Alla, die mit viel Liebe wunderschöne Snows züchtet.

PRENATAL phase in cats

During the pregnancy, from the forty-fifth day on, the fetus is aware of its surrounding. Scientists found out that it reacts to caresses and massages on their mothers belly. Kitten that have been stimulated through their mothers belly are emotionally more stable, resistant to stress and illnesses. They are used to be touched, are much more affective and tolerate a higher level of manipulation and handling.
